Spicy Sesame Raw Garlic Cabbage

This simple side dish pairs perfectly with rich proteins that packs a lot of garlic and sesame flavor.  Cabbage is the budget friendly side dish $2 for a small head with pantry ingredients.

  1. Wash and cut the cabbage in half and remove the core for easy cutting into wedges then into 2" bite size pieces, set aside to dry in a large bowl.
  2. Use a mortar and pestle to round ground the sesame seeds.
  3. Add the minced garlic to the mortar and continue to ground together, set aside.
  4. Add the salt and hondashi powder to the cabbage in the bowl and mix until incorporated.
  5. Add the ground sesame seeds and garlic, sesame oils to the cabbage and mix.
  6. Enjoy with rich proteins like smoked brisket, slow cooked miso pork, etc. to feel healthy with some greens on the plate.
