Spicy Sesame Raw Garlic Cabbage
This simple side dish pairs perfectly with rich proteins that packs a lot of garlic and sesame flavor. Cabbage is the budget friendly side dish $2 for a small head with pantry ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1 small head of cabbage
- 1 t salt
- 1 t hondashi powder
- 1/4 C roasted sesame seeds
- 1/4 C sesame oil
- 1 t chili sesame oil
- 2 T minced garlic, adjust to taste, I like lots of garlic and it's how I have it frozen in my food prep in 2 T serving cubes Garlic Ice Cube / Helpful Hacks | Cooking with Aloha, Texas Style
Directions
- Wash and cut the cabbage in half and remove the core for easy cutting into wedges then into 2" bite size pieces, set aside to dry in a large bowl.
- Use a mortar and pestle to round ground the sesame seeds.
- Add the minced garlic to the mortar and continue to ground together, set aside.
- Add the salt and hondashi powder to the cabbage in the bowl and mix until incorporated.
- Add the ground sesame seeds and garlic, sesame oils to the cabbage and mix.
- Enjoy with rich proteins like smoked brisket, slow cooked miso pork, etc. to feel healthy with some greens on the plate.
