Ground Beef Hand Pies

Video Instagram

This is a short cut version of a meat hand pie using store bought puff pastry dough.  I never made my puff pastry dough before, sound like a lot of work.  This works for me when craving well-seasoned beef inside a flaky bite.  It's a savory pastry that's easy and satisfying.  The sambal adds extra kick!

Ingredients

  • 1 ground beef
  • 1 small bunch onions, chopped
  • 1 T garlic, minced
  • 1 T fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 T Sambal Olek
  • 2 T Shoyu
  • 1 package puff pastry sheets
  • 1 t sesame oil
  • 1 egg

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 400°F.
  2. Cook ground beef until browned in frying pan over medium high heat.
  3. Drain off fat.
  4. Add garlic and ginger; sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  5. Add green onions and shoyu, lower heat to medium, about 5 minutes.
  6. Remove puff pastry sheets from package and cut to size, I did 5” pieces.
  7. Place a spoonful of the beef mixture on each pastry, fold over to seal the edges.
  8. Whisk the egg with a tablespoon of water, brush over each pie for color.
  9. Bake pies on silicone sheet for 25 minutes until golden brown.
