Laundry detergent 3 ingredients

It feels like I’m going back to old-school methods, with so many unnecessary additives in commercial products these days. I wanted something simple that cleans without leaving a scent. This recipe makes a 5-gallon batch, and only half a cup is needed for a front-loading washing machine. I was pleasantly surprised by how soft it left the laundry.

Ingredients

  • 1 bar of castile soap like Bronner's
  • 1 C Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
  • 1 C Borax

Directions

  1. Grate castile soap bar.
  2. Add 4 C hot water to saucepan over low heat.
  3. Stil 10 minutes until dissolved.
  4. Fill a 5 gallon bucket with hot water half way.
  5. Pour saucepan mixture into the bucket.
  6. Add the washing soda and Borax, stir 2 minutes until combined.
  7. Top off bucket with cold water, it was easier to do this in the sink.
  8. Stir and cover for 24 hours.
  9. Finished product should be a translucent color.
  10. I use 1/2 C for a full front load washing machine in cold water.
